Moving to Spain

Residency, tax, property and, if relevant, a business, planned as one sequence so the decisions made early do not create problems later.

Plan your move Coordinated by Laura Jiménez (relocation and residency processes) with Luis Rendón (tax).

What it is

A move to Spain involves a residency process, a tax residency position, practical registrations and often a property purchase or a business. Handled separately, these decisions can conflict. Handled together, they can be timed to fit.

We coordinate the relocation and tax workstreams with one point of contact. Where the move requires regulated legal or immigration advice, we introduce an independent professional and keep the overall plan joined up.

When it is useful

  • You are relocating from inside or outside the EU
  • You are moving with family members
  • You are buying property before or after arrival
  • You plan to start or move a business to Spain
  • You want to understand the tax effect before you commit
  • You need someone to coordinate the steps on the ground

What we cover

Scope is agreed up front; not every engagement needs every area.

Residency process

The steps, documents and timeline relevant to your situation.

Tax position

Tax residency, the first tax year and foreign income.

Registrations

NIE and the registrations needed on arrival.

Property

The tax side of buying or renting, coordinated with independent professionals.

Business set-up

Company formation or self-employment, if you plan to trade.

Family

Documentation and registrations for each family member.

How we work

  1. Plan

Your nationality, family, assets and timing.

  2. Sequence

Residency, registration and tax steps put in the right order.

  3. Prepare

    Documents assembled, checked and submitted.

  4. Settle

Registrations completed and first-year obligations scheduled.

Typical situations

Illustrative situations, not client case studies.

An entrepreneur relocating to start a business

Residency, company formation and the tax set-up sequenced together, rather than as three separate projects.

A family moving from elsewhere in Europe

Registrations for each family member and the tax treatment of income from the country they are leaving.

A couple buying a home in Mallorca before moving

The order of purchase, residency and the tax effect of their income and pensions.

Questions

Do you handle immigration applications?

We support clients through residency processes and documentation. Where regulated legal or immigration advice is required, an independent professional provides it, and the engagement is agreed directly with them.

When should we start?

Ideally several months before the move, so the timing of residency and tax can be chosen rather than imposed.
