Financial analysis

Profit, cash and working capital move on different clocks. We analyse the financial position behind a business, and model what happens under different decisions, so owners can act before the numbers force them to.

What it is

Financial analysis looks at the P&L, the balance sheet and cash flow together. It asks where cash is tied up, how quickly sales turn into cash, how much headroom the business has and how sensitive the result is to a few key variables.

Forecasting and scenario analysis then turn that picture into decisions: how much growth the business can fund, what a change in payment terms is worth, and what would happen if a large customer paid late or left.

Commercial and financial analysis. Not a statutory audit, legal opinion or regulated investment advice.

When it is useful

  • The business is profitable but cash is tight
  • Growth is consuming more working capital than expected
  • You are planning a significant investment or expansion
  • You need a forecast a lender, partner or board can rely on
  • Payment terms with customers or suppliers are changing
  • You want to understand the downside before committing

What we analyse

Scope is agreed up front; not every engagement needs every area.

P&L and margins

Where profit is made, and how it is trending.

Cash flow

How profit converts (or fails to convert) into cash.

Working capital

Receivables, payables and inventory, and the cash they absorb.

Liquidity

Headroom, funding needs and timing.

Forecasting

A forward view built on explicit, testable assumptions.

Scenarios & sensitivity

What changes under different decisions or shocks.

How we work

  1. Question

The decision the analysis needs to support.

  2. Baseline

The current financial position, reconciled and understood.

  3. Model

Forecasts and scenarios on clear assumptions.

  4. Decide

Options, trade-offs and the actions that follow.

Typical situations

Illustrative situations, not client case studies.

A growing distributor running short of cash

Working capital by customer and product, and the effect of payment terms on funding needs.

An owner weighing a major investment

Scenarios for the investment against downside cases, and the headroom each leaves.
